Our Team
Our team consists of two physicians and two nurses. Learn more about each below:

Dr. Christopher Gerdung
Dr. Gerdung completed his medical school at the University of Alberta before relocating to Ottawa to complete pediatric residency at the University of Ottawa. His passion for caring for children with breathing conditions brought him back to Alberta where he completed training in Pediatric Respirology and Sleep Medicine at the University of Calgary. He returned to Edmonton in 2018 where he worked as a staff physician at the University of Alberta and Stollery Children’s hospital, where his time was split between clinical care, research, and medical education.
Dr. Gerdung moved his practice to the community in the fall of 2023 as a way to focus on clinical care.
When not at the clinic, Dr. Gerdung enjoys time with his family, and prefers to spend time outside hiking, biking, camping and running.

Dr. Christopher Ewing
After growing up in the Edmonton area, Dr. Ewing completed medical school at the University of Calgary, where excellent pediatric respirology mentors and early clinical patient encounters inspired his future career. He completed his first two years of pediatric residency at the University of Calgary before returning to Edmonton to complete pediatric residency and pediatric respirology fellowship at the University of Alberta.
After completing training in 2016, Dr. Ewing began a community pediatric respirology practice to provide excellent clinical care for children with high respiratory health needs in the community to help keep them at home rather than in the hospital and began providing care at the Stollery Children’s Hospital Cystic Fibrosis clinic as well in 2019.
When not at work, Dr. Ewing spends time with his family at the park, in the swimming pool, or just kicking the soccer ball around in the backyard.

Ariann Orilla
Before moving to Canada, Ariann worked as a nurse in different areas like orthopedics, internal medicine and obstetric emergency room but she had a longer experience working in pediatrics catering to patients with various levels of care. In 2016, she started working with seniors and children with special needs in the community. She joined the pediatric respirology community practice in 2018 as a Licensed Practical Nurse assisting patients with diverse health care needs. Ariann enjoys cooking and watching movies. She also likes exploring new places and going on new adventures with her family.
Christie Mellen
Christie graduated from the NorQuest Licensed Practical Nurse Program in 2016.
Following graduation she spent time working in a postpartum unit working with new moms and babies. After her time in the postpartum unit and before joining Pinwheel Pediatrics, she taught in a lab setting at Norquest to help prepare future nurses.
When not at the clinic you can find Christie spending time with her best friend, her golden retriever, named Duke. They are often exploring the beautiful trails in the river valley and embarking on adventures to find new places to play fetch. During the summer, Christie enjoys getting her whole family (and their furry friends) together for campfires, and maybe one or two s’mores.
